Bengali sarees are worn from Nepal to Kerala. The jamdani and tant cotton handlooms are a very fine, semi transparent micro weight muslin. They have a kind of built in breeze to them, revered in the ravages of a hot climate.
The jamdanies are made with supplementary yarns that are stitched extra into the warp/weft and tend to be very subdued and sober in their color expression. Tant sarees have jacquard dobby borders and are totally ready to make a statement. Baluchari or figure work sarees (ornament pictured) are available in the sari shop in both cotton and silk.
